Mom’s Potato Soup Recipe

Potato Soup
8-10 Medium sized Potatoes, cut in small squares
2 Cans of Evaporated Milk
Package of Velveeta Cheese, cubed
3 Cups of Cheddar Cheese, shredded
1 Can of Cheddar Cheese Soup
5-6 Pieces of Bacon, cooked and broken up
Salt
Pepper

  • Boil Potatoes in a large pan for about 15 minutes, or until soft. Drain off most of the water.
  • Add in the evaporated milk and the cheese soup. Then, when the soup starts getting hot, add in the cheeses and bacon bits. Even turkey bacon gives it a really good flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper to taste. You may also want to add chopped onions for flavor. (I use the freeze dried ones, because you don’t have to precook them.)
  • Cook at a slow boil for about 15 minutes, or until the soup thickens.
  • Cool for about 10 minutes. Enjoy!*

*Sprinkle some of the shredded cheese, bacon bits, and chives on the top of each bowl to make a pretty presentation.

Purse Freak… Guilty as Charged

I have never thought of myself as one of those women who have to have all the latest and trendiest “things”. But I have recently become a huge fan of this one brand of purse… red by Marc Ecko. They are beautiful, even somewhat enchanting…. spoken like a true shopaholic. I bought my first one this past spring and I have loved it so much that I haven’t wanted to change purses since. Finally, I gave myself up and decided to attempt to find a new one that is a little more of a winter friendly color. And of course, I ended up getting one the same brand! I just could not help my self, it has the softest leather, and keeps up so nicely. I love it! LOVE IT. L.O.V.E. I.T.

Ever since my first “red” experience I have just been mesmerized by them and so I thought I would share my story, I am sure that are some equally purse crazed women out there like myself. If that is you I say to you “Happy Hunting!”

In case you are curious about this brand, Amazon is a good place to get them… be careful though, you might just get hooked on them!

Dirt Cake

dirt cake

I was a skeptic, but now I love Dirt Cake! Or as my husband usually calls it, mud pie. I used to think this dessert was just like chocolate pudding with some crumbled cookies. But at least with this recipe it is soooo good.

1.5 package of Oreo Cookies
1 (8 oz.) package of Cream Cheese
1/2 C. Butter, softened
1 C. Powdered Sugar
3 C. Milk
1 (12 oz.) tub of Whip Cream
2 (3 ½ oz.) packages of Instant Pudding, chocolate or vanilla
1/2 t. Vanilla

  • Crush all the Oreo Cookies and set aside.
  • Mix together the butter, cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. Set aside
  • Mix together the pudding and the milk. Then fold together the cream cheese mixture and the pudding. Add the whip cream to the mixture.
  • Layer the crushed cookies, and the pudding mixture starting with the cookies. 3 layers of cookies and 2 layers of the pudding mixture.

*You can add gummy worms to the top layer of oreos to make it fun for kids. You can also put it in a new, clean flower pot and stuff a fake flower down in the middle of the “dirt”.

Salsa Cream Cheese Dip

chipnsalsa

Better than plain old chips and salsa???

Have you ever poured home-made salsa over a package of cream cheese and dipped tortilla chips in it? Well if you like that, you will definitely love this dip.

2 8oz. packages of Cream Cheese, softened
2 C. (8oz.) shredded Monterey Jack Cheese
2 C. (16oz.) Sour Cream
3 Eggs lightly beaten
1 C. Salsa
1 can (4oz.) chillies, drained
1 medium tomato, diced

  • Beat together the cream cheese and the cheese.Add in one cup of sour cream and the eggs. Then stir in the salsa and green chilies.
  • Pour mixture into a 9 in. round pan and bake for 350º for 40-45 minutes.
  • After removing from over let it cool for at least 1 hr before removing from the pan. Use a knife to loosen the edges, and let it cool a little more if it does not seem  like it will pop out. Place on a decorative plate and spread sour cream on top of it.
  • Refrigerate it for at least 5 hours. Before serving add the diced tomatoes the to top*.

*For a little added spice add some home-made guacamole.

Ghostly Pumpkins

pumpkins1

Want to make a different type of jack-o-lantern this year? Ghost pumpkins are a great idea, and sooo easy. Just look how cute they are next to a regular old jack-o-lantern. Here’s how:

  1. Start by cutting a hole in the bottom of the pumpkin, then hollow the pumpkin out just like normal.
  2. Then put the plug back in the bottom, and then paint the entire thing white with craft paint. Let it dry completely. Repeat if you can see through the paint in any places.
  3. Use a pencil to sketch two ovals for eyes and a misshapen long oval for the mouth.
  4. Use a carving knife to cut the holes. Be careful not the chip any of the paint around the eyes and mouth, while cutting.
  5. Then, put a tea-light in it and watch it glow!

Why do I torture my dog?

Okay, it’s not really torturing her. I just like to dress her in costumes, because she looks so cute. Also, because I don’t have any kids to dress up so… Daisy gets to dress up.

Daisy bug

Her Lady Bug Costume, she really hated this one.

Daisy hula

Daisy as a hula girl! So cute and she didn’t really mind it.

Daisy bunny

And at Easter she got to be a bunny, all she wanted was to get those ears off so she could play with them.

So these are just a few of my ideas for pet costumes. Sorry some of the pictures are not the best.

This year she is going to be a pumpkin ( just a Pumpkin t-shirt from Target). Best of all, it is glow-in-the-dark, and she likes t-shirts.

More Easy Adult Costumes

halloween

  • Prisoner- Bright orange scrubs work great for this, just add some black numbers to the back and the pockets.
  • Black Cat- This costume is pretty flexible, you can wear a black party dress, or some black tights and and form fitting black shirt. Even a set of black scrubs would work. Then, find something for the tail (a black flashy boa works great. Paint on a black nose and some whiskers. Add a headband with pointy ears (maybe use construction paper to make your own ears) to complete the costume!
  • Tourist- Wear a pair of khaki’s and a tropical print shirt. Accent with sunglasses, a camera around the neck, a straw hat, and maybe a fanny pack. Then. finish the outfit with a pair of white tennis shoes. If you are wearing shorts it is funny to put really tall black sorts with them.
  • Copy Cat- This is not really a “cat” it means try to look and dress just like someone you know who will be at the same event.
  • Secret Agent- Black suit, sun glasses, and a mysterious black hat are about all you need. Then just play with your cell phone and act obscure all night.
  • Diva Rockstar-  Number one rule for this outfit is wild hair, maybe a wig or maybe use some temporary hair color to put streaks in your hair. Then wear a lot of make-up and probably some fake eyelashes. Then wear something like a black vest over a white button up shirt and a plaid school girl skirt. Then, wear knee high socks and platform shoes. Top this outfit off with a pair of bi sunglasses.
  • Doctor- This one is too easy all you need are some light green scrubs (the the surgeon scrubs) and a medical paper hat. Then just wear some tennis shoes and a stethoscope, if you can find someone to borrow one from.
